Urban Planning and the heterogenous city: A study of the technical, social and political controversies around the 2014-2034 Mumbai Development Plan

The collaborative project between École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne and TISS was aimed towards analysing the process of revision of Mumbai Development Plan (MDP) 2014-2034 and its temporary withdrawal due to the unprecedented public outcry and strong criticism by both experts and civil society. The study of the public arenas and controversies induced by the making of the MDP 2014-2034 was a unique opportunity to develop a refined understanding of the of the increasing heterogeneity of contemporary urban development and the challenges it raises to urban planning. The project studied the technical, social and political controversies, which evolved around the MDP 2034.
