TISS, in association with the National Hawkers Federation and Hawker Sangram Committee, organised the ‘Consultation on West Bengal Street Vendors Rules and Draft Schemes & Discussion on Gendered Perspective of Hawkers in Kolkata. In attendance were 100 hawker representatives, the Deputy Chairman of the Kolkata Town Vending Committee, ex-Mayor of Kolkata, academics, trade union representatives, social activists, and representatives of Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (YUVA), representatives of Action Aid and Human Rights Law Network (HRLN). A special session on women hawkers was attended by close to 50 women. Suggestions for a draft outline of a scheme and amended rules was drawn up during the workshop.
