Dr. Pedro Novais is Professor of Urban and Regional Planning Theory at the Institute of Urban and Regional Planning at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The talk touched upon civil movements that emerged as a response to the political turmoil in Brazil. Dr. Pedro, who has engaged with these movements from close quarters, spoke about people’s grievances, their hopes, and expectations from the new political regime.
The talk concluded with reflections on the current state of political affairs in Brazil and the ways forward to pursue democratic ideals in an increasingly neoliberalising era.
