Project website by University of Manchester:

URBAN INFRASTRUCTURES IN TRANSITION – SANITATION IN URBAN INDIA AND BRAZIL

We track the evolving trajectory of sanitation technologies and their interface with local populations and issues of equity, justice and sustainability involved therein. The project has been extended for a year, due to the delays caused by COVID and will now end in 2023.

So far, we have completed literature review, data collection at 2 sites has been initiated. On the collaborative front, a joint paper in a book has already been published. Prof Amita Bhide lectured Brazilian students on ‘Informal Settlements and Sanitation Policy in India’ on April 27th, 2021. Further, the project has resulted in a series of international workshops on various aspects of infrastructure building in the South called Infra +.

Prof Bhide was a panelist on a webinar titled Infra + South and South-East Asia on 25th May 2021. Ms Richa Bhardwaj participated in a practice theory school organized by the University of Manchester. The project is thus, paving way for collaborations that go beyond research.
